Presentation of Gifts to Children

Mary Lee to children: Just as Beth and Stan gave each other rings as symbols of their love and commitment to one another, so too, they present each of you with a gift as a symbol of their love and commitment to you.

To Bethy:

Bethy,

You’re more than a child,

yet not quite full grown,

I’m not your Mom,

you have one of your own.

When I got your father,

I got you for free–

my own special bonus,

is what you are to me.

You love your dad

with fierceness and pride;

that won’t ever change

just because I’m his bride.

Your dad calls you critter

and he always has;

I’ll never compete

with your love for Dad.

I hope you and I

will have our own special tie,

more than two friends,

a bonus for life.

To Jordan:

Jordan, Today I become your step dad, but I prefer to think of it as becoming your bonus dad.  There is so much that a man and his bonus son can share.  Together we’ll fix computers, build things in the garage, and work on cars.  But at the same time, something deeper will happen. We’ll bond in the way of two people who work together.  Others will see us “doing things”, but we’ll also be learning that our relationship is solid and out trust in each other is strong.  I will be another adult you can trust to be there for you – for fun and for the difficult times that eventually come.  You’re a special person, Jordan, and I’m proud to be your bonus dad.

To Jennica:

Jennica, you get the poetry!

I gain more than a wife

As your mother and I wed

She comes with a daughter

With varied traits it’s said

A darling young lady

Who brightens the room

Our small blond monster

From the outer lagoon

Your mother loves you everythinger

You both show you care

I can only marvel

At the closeness you share

As you grow to adult

I get to be there, too

And bask in the joy of

Watching you being you
